Quick Take
Renting a small boat from Bardolino is one of those Lake Garda activities that works for almost everyone when the weather is right. Kids like it, adults like it, and on a hot day there is nothing complicated about stopping the boat and jumping into the water.
I have done it a few times, and it is a lot of fun. The lake looks different from the water: Bardolino, Garda, Punta San Vigilio, the hills, the bays, and the little stretches of coast all make more sense when you are not only seeing them from the road or promenade.

- Their site lists small motorboats that can be rented without a boat licence, plus recommended routes and different rental lengths.
Why It Is Worth Doing
Lake Garda is not only pretty from town. From the water, the whole place opens up: cliffs, villas, small harbours, swimming spots, and the shape of the shoreline. It is also one of the simplest ways to cool down when the lake is hot and still.
You do not need to make it heroic. A few hours can be enough: leave Bardolino, enjoy the view, stop somewhere sensible for a swim, take your time, and come back before everyone is tired, sunburned, or pretending they know how wind works.
Bardolino Rent Boats
Bardolino Rent Boats is based at Punta Cornicello. Their site lists motorboats for 6 or 7 people that can be driven without a boat licence, with safety equipment, child life jackets, sun shade, bathing ladder, GPS locator, and insurance included in the setup.
They also show suggested routes for one, two, and three hours, including classic places like Garda, Punta San Vigilio, Torri del Benaco, Sirmione, and Isola del Garda depending on the route and time. I would still keep your first rental sensible rather than trying to see everything.
How Long to Rent For
One hour is a taste. Two or three hours start to feel like a proper outing. Four or five hours give you more room for swimming and not rushing, but only if everyone is comfortable being out on the lake that long.
For many visitors, three hours is a good mental starting point: enough time to feel free, not so much time that the day becomes a boating exam. If you already know you love being on the water, then a longer rental can be great.
Swimming From the Boat
This is the best part on hot days. Park carefully where it is allowed and sensible, use the ladder, swim, cool down, get back on, and remember that the sun feels friendlier on the water than it actually is.
Bring towels, sunscreen, water, hats, and something simple to snack on if you are out for several hours. Keep phones and valuables protected, and do not turn the boat into a floating luggage shelf.
What to Check Before Booking
Check the current rental prices, fuel rules, deposit, weather policy, required documents, and whether the boat you want is available. The site says an identity document, mobile phone, and cash deposit are required for rental.
Also take wind seriously. Lake Garda can change mood, and a boat day should feel relaxed, not like a lesson in why weather apps exist. If conditions are not right, move the plan.
