Where to Eat Around Lake Garda
Food around Lake Garda is best approached with a little realism. Some lakefront places are worth the view. Some are mostly selling the view. The goal here is a guide around places I would actually recommend: reliable meals, useful aperitivo stops, wine bars with a point of view, gelato worth the queue, and local dishes that help the trip feel rooted here.
The strongest restaurant notes are around Bardolino and the nearby hills. That is deliberate. Better a focused guide with real reasons than a long list pretending every busy terrace is a discovery.
Antico Casale Tre Camini
Area: Costermano sul Garda, near Bardolino and Garda
Type: Traditional restaurant in an old casale
Best for: Proper lunch or dinner, traditional food, strong wine selection, warm atmosphere
Tre Camini is one of my favorite restaurants near Bardolino. It is not on the lakefront, which is part of the appeal: you go for the old casale atmosphere, the food, and the wine list, not for a view.
The risotto all’Amarone is the dish I think about before I even arrive. The only catch is that they usually make it for a minimum of two people. If nobody wants to share it, I have ordered it anyway, taken the second portion home, and eaten it the next morning. No regrets.
Good to know: Prices are very respectable for the quality. This is a good choice when you want something more grounded than another lakefront meal.
Booking: Call ahead, especially for weekends or summer.
Osteria Tenuta Preella
Area: Cavaion Veronese, near Bardolino and Lazise
Type: Osteria with a strong fish focus and summer outdoor seating
Best for: Fish, relaxed dinners, good staff, summer evenings outside, meals in the hills near Bardolino
Tenuta Preella is one I like for the people as much as the food. The staff are great, the location is nice, and in summer the outside area has that easy countryside feeling with vineyards nearby and the sun dropping on the horizon.
The menu changes, but when the calamari is right it is always good. I also like the octopus, though they do not always have it, so do not build your whole evening around that one dish.
Good to know: The food is mostly fish-focused. In winter you eat inside; in summer the outdoor area is the reason to make a proper evening of it.
Booking: Definitely book during summer. In winter it is usually simpler, but I would still call if the evening matters.
Osteria Metti
Area: Incaffi / Affi, in the hills above Bardolino and Cavaion Veronese
Type: Osteria for grilled meat, fresh pasta, salumi, cheeses, and local wine
Best for: Meat, handmade pasta, good wine, a proper meal in the hills, outdoor seating when the weather works
Osteria Metti is a great place for me when I want a proper meal away from the lakefront. It is not the cheapest option, but the quality is very good and the wine selection is strong.
This is the kind of place I would think about for meat, fresh pasta, salumi, cheeses, and a slower meal. If what you really want is fish, do not come here for that. Choose a fish-focused place instead.
Good to know: They have outdoor seating, high chairs, and dogs are allowed. It sits in the Incaffi area among the vineyards, so it works well when you want something more countryside than lakefront.
Booking: Book by phone, especially for weekends, summer evenings, or if you want to sit outside.
Ristorante La Dacia
Area: Bardolino hills, Via dei Monvei
Type: Casual hillside restaurant with garden, traditional food, groups, birthdays, and weddings
Best for: Lunch under the trees, casual local meals, families, groups, birthday parties, mixed menus, and relaxed hillside atmosphere
La Dacia is one of those places where I just feel comfortable. I go there a lot for lunch, the staff are great, and Elena, the owner, is amazing. It feels casual in the right way, especially when you can sit outside under the trees.
This is not a one-dish place for me. It works because you can go for pasta, meat, fish, salad, or a little bit of everything. Sometimes I am out biking, get hungry, stop in, and a plate of pasta with a salad is exactly what I need.
Good to know: They also do birthdays, banquets, and weddings, so the place can shift from casual lunch to a bigger event setting. The garden, children's area, traditional dishes, fresh ingredients, and local wine from their vineyard all fit the easy hillside feel.
Booking: In summer, book for dinner, especially on weekends or if you want to sit outside. Lunch is usually easier, but it can still get busy in high season. Call ahead for groups, birthdays, ceremonies, or weddings.
Stella d'Italia
Area: Pastrengo, Piazza Carlo Alberto 25, about 10 minutes from Bardolino by car
Type: Historic traditional restaurant between Verona and Lake Garda
Best for: Snails, regional cooking, freshwater fish, selected meats, outdoor tables in season, and a proper meal away from the lakefront
Stella d'Italia is the place I would think about if somebody around Bardolino specifically wants to eat snails. I am not a huge snail person myself, but friends who like them really love this place.
Snails are one of their distinctive points, alongside regional classics, fresh pasta, freshwater fish, and selected meats. If you are curious about lumache, this is the one to put on the list.
Good to know: It is a historic restaurant in the centre of Pastrengo, run by the Segattini family for many years, with an elegant but warm dining room, seasonal outdoor terrace, garden tables, gazebo seating, and a wine cellar for pairings.
Booking: Call ahead, especially if you want dinner, outdoor seating, a private room, or if you are going specifically for the snails. Check current hours before making the drive.
Ristorante Taverna Kus
Area: San Zeno di Montagna, Via Castello 14, about 20 minutes from Bardolino by car
Type: Refined Veronese cooking in a seventeenth-century stone building with garden and lake view
Best for: A cooler summer escape from Bardolino, lake views from above, refined local cooking, strong service, and a proper reserved meal
Taverna Kus is one I really like, especially in hot summer weather. San Zeno di Montagna sits higher above the lake, so it can feel much cooler than Bardolino town, and that alone can make dinner more pleasant when the heat is heavy below.
The risotto is my favorite dish there: simply exquisite. The cooking is more refined than a simple trattoria, with Veronese tradition, seasonal ingredients, freshwater fish, meat dishes, tasting menus, and à la carte choices.
Good to know: The service is excellent, the food is great, and the setting gives you that mountain-above-the-lake feeling. There is a strong wine cellar too, with plenty of focus on Garda, Valpolicella, Soave, and nearby wine areas.
Booking: Reservations are important, especially on weekends and during the busy season. I would not treat this as a casual walk-in dinner when the lake is full.
Agricola Lotto Gabriele
Area: Rivoli Veronese, near Lake Garda and the Adige side
Type: Seasonal white asparagus farm restaurant and direct-sales farm
Best for: White asparagus season, a fixed seasonal menu, something simple and different, and anyone who really likes asparagus
Agricola Lotto Gabriele is great if you like asparagus, because that is basically the point of the evening. It is not fancy, and it is not a place where you sit down with a big menu and choose whatever mood you are in. You go because it is asparagus season, and because doing something this specific can be fun.
Expect white asparagus, usually in a simple seasonal meal: asparagus risotto, asparagus on its own, maybe a few cheeses or small extras depending on the evening. They only do white asparagus, and that is the whole charm.
Good to know: This is seasonal. White asparagus production here usually starts around late March and lasts about 50 to 60 days, so think April and May, with a little movement depending on the year. At the end of the night, you may also be able to buy asparagus to take home.
Booking: Do not just show up assuming it works like a normal restaurant. Call or reserve first, and check whether the seasonal dinners are running.
Osteria La Lanterna
Area: Tacconi, Via Tacconi 86, about 11 minutes from Bardolino by car
Type: Small Ligurian and Genovese-style restaurant with a fish focus
Best for: Fish, Ligurian flavors, a simple good meal, and something different from the usual Lake Garda menus
I have been to La Lanterna a couple of times and had a pretty good meal there. It is run by a husband and wife, and the cooking leans Genovese, so think more Ligurian fish and pesto-style flavors than the usual lakefront tourist menu.
Fish is the reason I would think about it. The dishes are simple but nicely made, with that Ligurian feeling of anchovies, olive oil, herbs, tomatoes, olives, and clean seafood flavors.
Good to know: This is a good restaurant, but I would go when I am not in a rush. It suits a slower meal better than a quick stop between two plans.
Booking: Call ahead, especially for weekends. The website was not loading when checked, so use the phone number rather than relying on the site.
Al Vecchio Forno
Area: Pazzon, Caprino Veronese, a little out of the way from Bardolino
Type: Warm old-stone restaurant in a restored former forno
Best for: A good meal away from the lakefront, strong service, a quieter Caprino Veronese stop, and people who do not mind the drive
Al Vecchio Forno is a little out of the way, but I had a good meal there and the service was super. This is the kind of place I would think about when I want to leave the lakefront rhythm behind and eat somewhere with more of an old-stone, tucked-away feeling.
The food leans genuine and seasonal rather than flashy. I would treat it as a proper restaurant meal, not a quick stop between two plans.
Good to know: It is in Pazzon, near Caprino Veronese, so plan the drive. Also, phone reception inside can be terrible; if you are waiting for an emergency call, this is probably not the place to test your signal.
Booking: Call ahead, especially for dinner or weekends, and check current opening times before making the drive.
Ristorante Al Volt
Area: Riva del Garda, north Lake Garda, not Garda town
Type: Elegant restaurant with polished service, creative Italian food, meat, fish, risotto, desserts, and a strong wine setting
Best for: A proper dinner in Riva del Garda, quality food, good service, a nicer meal that still feels fair for what you get
Al Volt is one of those places where you look at the room and think you may need to speak to a bank before ordering. But when I went, the experience was much more reasonable than it looks from the outside. The service was excellent, the food quality was very high, and it felt like a proper meal, not just a fancy room pretending to be dinner.
We had a tasting menu that was around 60 euro, then with wine and the full evening it came to about 80 euro per person. For the service and quality, I thought that was amazing value.
Good to know: This is in Riva del Garda, at the north end of the lake, so it is not a casual dinner from Bardolino unless you are already spending the day up there. It makes more sense if you are staying in Riva, visiting the north lake, or planning a proper evening around it.
Booking: Book ahead, especially for dinner, weekends, or if you are planning it as a special meal.
Ristorante Bella Italia Pesce
Area: Peschiera del Garda
Type: Fish-focused restaurant in Peschiera del Garda
Best for: High-end fish, polished service, careful presentation, and a proper dinner in Peschiera del Garda
I have been to Bella Italia Pesce a few times, and it is very good. It is on the higher end, and they get quite fancy with how the food comes out, but in a way that feels backed up by the quality. The staff are great, the attention is strong, and the food is the reason to go.
Think fish and a more polished meal, not a quick casual lakefront bite. If you want something simple and cheap, this is probably not the one. If you want a proper fish dinner with good service, it makes sense.
Good to know: The location is nothing special and it is away from the most touristy side of Peschiera del Garda, so do not choose it for lakefront atmosphere. Choose it for the food, staff, and attention. Lunch and dinner hours can change, so check current times before going.
Booking: Call ahead, especially for dinner, weekends, or if you are making the trip from Bardolino.
Useful Food Angles
Start with the restaurants already listed, then use the rest of the page to think about aperitivo around the lake, local dishes to try, wine bars, gelato, and restaurants with views. Keep each choice specific. "Nice atmosphere" is less useful than when to book, what to order, and who should skip it.
